Facebook Avertising: doing something right

I would just like to let the world know that the following came up in the advertising on my facebook today. They sure got me pegged.

I should be so lucky one day

Y'all should be very concerned about zombies getting married. It is an erosion of the scantity of marriage. Marriage is between two consulting adults, who are not reanimated courpses. However, technically this video depicts actors, playing zombies, getting engaged. So it's not so bad. In fact, it's downright adorable. Picnik

I've plugged Picnick before but I just wanted to let you all know that it's even more awesome now then it was before and is offering even more zombie photo editing tools. Including no less than 6 distinct zombie flesh tones!
I tried to use Picnick in the off season (not October), and the zombifying option was under premium (pay) features. I'm now happy to report that this feature is currently available to everyone without making an account or paying. Here's what I was able to do in just a few minutes.

  I take a lot of enjoyment surprising my friends with zombified photos of them. If your persuasion leans more towards vampires, there's new tools for that too. enjoy! (Link)

Dear Vegetarian Spiders, we can be friends.

As I flip through my television stations this evening I found CNN running a story titled "Should we eat meat". The debate revolves around the risk of death or disfigurment from consumption of contaminated red meat. I have a lot of personal beliefs about this topic, as a vegetarian of 13 years myself.  My reasons for not participating in the consumption of meat have more to do with my own sense of morality, and less with the health benefits.

However, what I really want to talk about is vegetarian spiders.

BBC has this story running about one species of arachnid that are herbivores. Vegetarian spiders are interesting because they are unexpected. I've always had issues with spiders, but I think the number one reason they skive me out is their particularly violent method of obtaining nourishment. So I'm offering a open invitation to all the Bagheera Kipling of the world. You and me can be friends.

A brief search of the internet resulted in the discovery of this vegetarian lion. Cool, right?

I'm on a Boat! (Zombie)

Had this idea at the thrift store today. An epic combination of two awesome things; I'm on a boat and zombies. This is defenetly the frontrunner in the Halloween costume competition. I am however, still accepting idea submissions.

Very professional Zombie makeup

I've been spending a little time thinking about zombie costumes in preparation for Halloween this year. I'm currently watching this video about zombie makeup. This guy is so into it. He clearly knows what he's doing but the video is a little tedious. He spents 3 minutes describing the cosmetics he uses. Which is cool, but I'm not going to buy the expensive stuff, I just want to get ideas for technique. The makeup job is very professional and full of good tips,.Plus, it's totally worth it just for the adorable music. Check it out. or a second video by the same people, with a little more liquid latex.

Glitter Skulls

Glitter skulls are so in this season.
Step 1:  Find some plastic skulls at your local dollar store. They look like this but without the string.
Step 2: Dilute some elmers glue and paint it on.
Step 3: Dip in glitter. Very messy. I chose dark blue glitter because its rockin'.
Step 4: Profit? No seriously, I'm working on what to do with these next. Photos to come when I have a good enough idea.

Surprise!

I'm so doing this to everyone I know. It's TP origami. The article only pitches it as a nice thing for hotels to do, but I think it's a nice way to leave a little surprise for people who's bathrooms you've visited.

By far the best Halloween costume idea yet: Michael Jackson Zombie!

Pros: Awesome and clever.

Cons: I don't in any way wish to embody MJ. Sorry. Not a supporter.

So I'm going to take a pass on this as my costume. However, I think it's a fantastic idea for another brave soul.

First costume suggestion

The first suggestion for a zombie costume comes from Brian.

Hipster Zombie
Pros: I already own 95% of this costume.

Cons: I'll have to rip and stain most of my prime hipster gear.

This costume may have a very humorous effect if pulled off correctly. However, I feel the irony may be lost on most of the population. I foresee being mistaken for a zombie college student, not clever enough. Sorry Brian

thinking about Halloween costumes

Halloween is my absolute favorite time of year. I love everything about it. I love pumpkins. I love costumes. I love candy. I love ridiculous and over the top parties. Did I mention the gore?
Well...I'm pretty much certain I'm going to dress as a zombie again this year. I just need some help deciding what exact type of zombie I'm going to be. I'll post the best suggestions here and some thoughts on how to execute them. But for now, please enjoy pictures of last year's costume: Zombie Gynecologist!

Best Zombie Movie I've seen lately

I watched the Spanish language movie Rec a few days ago and I was super impressed. And by super impressed I mean I was actually pretty cheeped out by the end. The mark of a good zombie movie is weather or not it makes you concerned with the integrity of your home.
Now Rec is in Spanish. So what? It's an awesome movie.

So I figure there must be one potential zombie in the world that you would let bite you.
Mine has got to be Gael Garcia Bernal (pictured below).
He's so sexy I wouldn't care he was only after my BRAINS.

A Zombie Near You!

I've always wanted to partake in a ZombieWalk, though apparently I do not run in the correct circles to have ever heard of one being organized, nor have I ever witnessed one by chance. This may have much to do with my chosen geographical location, which is not reasonably close to NYC. However, at work today I stumbled upon this forum devoted to just this topic. Alas, as I do not live near a major metropolitan city, and have yet to find a recent post regarding upstate NY. But if you live in NYC, Philly, Boston or else ware, this site could help you find a Zombie Walk near you.
On a similar note, this is a little too much for me, but check it out for a good laugh. The “Rate” section is totally like HotOrNot for Zombies.

And lastly; Zombies are not green. period.

What you should be doing right now: going to home depot

Now is the time to get your ass to the hardware store and stock up on boards and long nails. Boards and nails are crucial for properly barricading yourself in your home provided you have not secured a zombie fortress beforehand. You don't want to be breaking apart furniture to try to cover those windows. At the risk of sounding like the Dept of homeland security following the anthrax attacks, duct tape is a good things to have around in mass.
Just a note: things with wheels do not make good barricades. I watched Day of the Dead (2008) the other day, and I felt this point was important to make.

AAA Member Discounts

I am the proud holder of a AAA membership (thanks to my mom). For $52 a year, I have the distinct pleasure of waiting on hold for 45 minutes while my car is stuck in 3 feet of snow on my front lawn, only to get disconnected before reaching a human being.
BUT, as I previously knew, but only now felt the need to research, there are other benefits to being a AAA member.

Firstly and most importantly: 10% off at Dunkin Doughnuts. I know this because they openly advertise the discount in the drive thru and at the counter. This is as of yet, the only place I've used my AAA membership....that includes car related issues as well. So far I have saved 60cents on a muffin and orange juice. Score.

So after an epiphany that I could probably save a lot of money, I decided to research other ways to save more pennies.

Wow, right off the bat I see that I could save 20% off Best Buy "services". Looks like that means Geek Squad services. But as a person who spent nearly $700 at Best Buy last week, and frequently breaks electronics, I could see how this is a good thing to keep in mind.

Hmm. Seems there's some kind of mystery discount that applies to the entire Carousel Mall, could be interesting trying to get them to honor that.

Barnes and Nobles has some convoluted discount structure.
